Two men were killed Thursday afternoon following a head-on collision on Route 430 in the Town of Chautauqua, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:40 p.m. after reports of a serious motor vehicle accident involving injuries. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, North Lake Fire Department, Sherman Fire Department, and Chautauqua County EMS responded to the crash.
Following an investigation, authorities determined that an eastbound vehicle driven by Alexander D. Morelli, 23, of Meadville, Pennsylvania, failed to remain in its lane, crossed the double solid center line, and collided with a westbound vehicle operated by Doug A. Griffith, 51, of Massena, New York.
Both drivers sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, which was assisted at the scene by local fire departments, EMS personnel, and other emergency responders.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances leading up to the collision.
