Local church supports firefighters by donating water and drinks | Allentown Area

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A local church gave back to those who help protect us Sunday.

Jordan United Church of Christ in Allentown wrapped up their water drive.

For three weeks – the church and its congregation gathered cases of water, Gatorade or Powerade to give to the Woodlawn Fire Department in South Whitehall.

They were inspired after seeing a story about how fire departments are running out of water to keep their fire fighters hydrated during the summer.

“I said hey, let’s do this as a fundraiser with the church. We’re not getting any money for it but we’re giving back to the community,” Jennifer Garcia, administrative assistant for the church, said. 

In total they gathered 49 cases of water, 28 cases of Gatorade and electrolyte drinks, and six packs of powdered electrolytes.
