A company proposing a data center in Union County has purchased land in Archbald.
ARCHBALD, Pa. — A New York-based developer has purchased land in an industrial park in Archbald. The same developer is building a data center in Central PA.
PNK Group purchased more than 80 acres in Valley View Business Park under an LLC named “DC VV LLC”.
PNK confirmed the purchase to Newswatch 16 but did not say if plans are to build a data center. The company said in an email, “We can confirm that PNK Group has acquired the property in the Valley View Business Park. At this stage, however, we are not ready to publicly discuss specific plans for the site.”
PNK is a builder of warehouses, including several in our area, but has recently started developing buildings to house data centers. That includes a proposed data center project in Union County.
The land was purchased from the Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Business Company, or SLIBCO, which is a division of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce. The purchase price was $16.2 million, according to Lackawanna County property records.
SLIBCO announced the sale but also did not elaborate on the plans for the land. Chamber President Bob Durkin said in a statement, “The Chamber’s mission is to attract, sustain, and grow business, jobs, and community investment in Lackawanna County. PNK Group has already demonstrated confidence in our market through the development of two industrial buildings totaling 418,653 square feet. Its commitment to an additional building of approximately 500,000 square feet further reinforces that confidence. This level of investment creates opportunities for new businesses, additional employment, and expands economic activity. It also strengthens the commercial tax base, while advancing the intentional development of industrial land that has been planned and historically supported by all the affected governing bodies.”
Since last year, six data center campuses, totaling dozens of buildings, have been proposed in Archbald.
