The Erie County Health Department has announced the successful delivery of advanced .511 trauma bags to area law enforcement offices in the county.

These are trauma response bags designed to immediately provide essential care supplies for emergency situations involving severe accidents, injuries or casualties, according to a news release.

The initiative, led by the EHCD, has provided 297 specialized kits primed to address severe bleeds and other critical injuries free of charge to area law enforcement offices. These trauma bags are high-quality, vital resources in the face of emergencies.

“Providing these .511 trauma bags ensures our local emergency personnel have immediate access to durable, life-saving supplies right when they need them most,” Irina Buga, public health educator and project coordinator for ECHD’s First Responder grant program, stated in the release. “Equipping our emergency personnel with top-tier equipment is a direct investment in the safety and resilience of our entire community.”

Bags will be provided to Sandusky Police Department, Perkins Township Police, Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Bellevue Police Department, Huron Police Department, and more. Each bag includes trauma dressings, glucose, antiseptic agents, gauze, masks, breathing apparatus, bandages, stethoscope and more.

“In a critical incident, having the right gear readily accessible can make all the difference,” Erie County Health Commissioner Peter Schade stated in the release. “This distribution allows us to directly support our local first responders with reliable, high-quality .511 trauma bags, so that they can deliver rapid, effective care in the field.”

The distribution was made possible through grant funding secured by the ECHD via the federal CARA/First Responders Grant Program. This effective strategy is just a single example of the strong health and safety services the Erie County Health Department provides to local law enforcement, continually chasing ways to strengthen the safety and well-being beyond standard public health services, the department stated in the release.
