Patrick Barrett
OBITUARY
It is with the deepest sadness and profound shock that we share a tragic accident that took the life of Patrick Barrett, 36, of Wyomissing, PA on August 18, 2026. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, and all who knew him with an immeasurable sense of loss.
Patrick was born and raised in Reading, PA alongside his sister Jennifer Barrett by his parents Patrick and Paula Barrett. Patrick was a graduate of Holy Guardian Angels and Central Catholic High School (2008). His childhood was always surrounded by family and friends, with many visits to his parents hometown of Scranton, PA. That connection would eventually lead him to attend the University of Scranton, where he graduated in 2012 with a degree in Computer Information Systems. His time there fostered deep friendships that have become another family.
Patrick was a loyal employee, working at The Childrens Place for 14 years in application development. He was truly invested in the work he did and created so many special bonds throughout those years.
Patrick married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Emily (Wunder) Barrett. Together they built a family in Wyomissing, welcoming their son, Patrick Jr. (Paddy). Patrick was an incredibly proud father and loved Paddy with his whole heart. They loved spending time together going to see trains, going to the driving range, building Legos, visits to the beach, and watching their favorite movies. They often called it boys club, (but mom was always invited). Paddy was the center of his world, and he treasured every moment spent with him.
A devoted husband, father, beloved son, cherished brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and loyal friend; Patrick was a man whose greatest joy was time together with his family and friends. Patrick had a way of making friends everywhere he went a complete stranger one second, a friend for life five minutes later, and he was always up for jovial banter. He brought so much life into every room that he entered. Patrick had such a genuine interest to learn from conversations with friends and even strangers, and perhaps this was why he was an avid collector, always finding the most unique things. He also loved to cook, always making meals a little extra special, whether it be making his Grand Slam breakfast or making a burger a culinary experience. He loved following a golf tournament with friends, having deep conversations over a game of darts, and easy football Sundays; following his Vikings while also quietly rooting for the Eagles since Paddy declared that his team. He was a man of tradition and loved celebrating his Irish heritage by making corned beef and cabbage every St. Patricks Day and going to Parade Day in Scranton. Patrick was truly one of a kind, bringing all of his heart and devotion into everything that he did and to everyone he met.
Though his life was far too short, Patrick made a lasting impact on the people fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of his wife, child, family, friends, and loved ones. He was truly the most considerate person on the planet. He brought the best out in all of us and will continue to do so in his own unique way. He will be remembered for his kind heart, warm smile, generous spirit, sense of humor, and for the love and laughter he brought into the lives of those around him.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Emily (Wunder) Barrett, son, Patrick Thomas Barrett Jr., parents, the Honorable Patrick and Paula Barrett, sister, Jennifer Barrett and fianc, Christopher Hagan, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, in-laws, sisters-in-law, cousins, many extended family members, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Pauline Kearney, his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Mary Barrett, his uncle, William Kearney, and aunt, Mary Anne Barrett.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Patricks life at a viewing to be held at Holy Guardian Angels Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19605 on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 11 AM at Holy Guardian Angels Church, which will be preceded by a viewing from 9-11 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to support Paddys future (https://www.gofundme.com/f/remembering-patrick-barrett).
The world was a better place with Patrick in it. Rest peacefully, Patrick. Your time with us was far too short, but the love you gave will live on forever through your child and everyone whose life you touched.
