A Throop woman allowed two dogs to be mauled to death at her home over the course of two months, according to a criminal complaint.
Amanda Lynfatt, of 838 George St., allegedly told police that “no one wanted the dogs” and attempts to rehome them had been unsuccessful. She told officers that even the ASPCA wouldn’t take them.
Throop officers were called to the residence on Feb. 18 for a report of a woman screaming while using a shovel in an attempt to protect a dog from several other dogs on the porch of the residence.
Responding officers spotted Mary Pascual attempting to separate the animals.
Officers noted that Lynfatt agreed to transport the severely injured dog to a local veterinary hospital only after Lt. Chris Mazzucca insisted the dog be transported for treatment.
Mazzucca transported the animal in his personal vehicle, according to the complaint.
Staff at the veterinary office told Mazzucca it was not the first time a dog had been attacked at the residence. On Jan. 12, another dog, named Wishbone, was transported to the clinic with severe abdominal injuries consistent with mauling, according to the complaint.
Lynfatt told officers the “puppies” often attacked each other, but she was usually able to separate them. She said the two incidents were a rarity and that the animals were typically well behaved.
Both dogs ultimately died from their injuries.
Lynfatt faces a felony chare of aggravated cruelty to animals which resulted in death.
Lynfatt was arraigned before District Judge Paul Keeler on Aug. 23.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 2.
