A dump truck crashed into a gas station due to mechanical failure, causing minor injuries, reports the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — A dump truck crashed into a gas station in Winder on Tuesday morning after an apparent mechanical problem caused the driver to lose the ability to steer and stop, according to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched about 9:15 a.m. to the Super H gas station at 752 Christmas Ave.
Police said the driver told authorities he could no longer steer or stop the vehicle properly. The truck struck a utility pole before continuing into the Super H building, the sheriff’s office said.
A clerk inside the store suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The dump truck driver suffered minor scratches to his hand.
Georgia Power also responded after the utility pole was damaged.
Deputies and utility crews remained at the scene Tuesday afternoon to address safety concerns. Motorists were urged to use caution in the area and avoid the immediate crash scene when possible.
The investigation remains ongoing.
