Wednesday is a landmark day for the Sisters of Saint Joseph. The Sisters are celebrating the 375th anniversary of the congregation’s founding.
The Sisters of Saint Joseph have been in Erie for 165 years. But the beginnings actually started in 1650 in France.
Retired Sister Phyllis DiFuccia was among a group in the 1960’s who went to France to translate all original documents from French to English.
Despite world happenings through the centuries, she said the mission of the Sisters has never changed. That is unity of all people in God, without distinction.
An open house soirée on will be hosted Saturday Oct. 25 at the Sisters Community Living Center at 5031 West Ridge Road from 2 to 5 p.m.
The Hagen History Center is hosting an exhibit of the Sisters’ 165-year history in the Erie Diocese through the end of the year.
