Marion (Frost) Needham
OBITUARY
Marion (Frost) Needham, a longtime West Scranton resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning at home with her loving daughters by her side. She was 101 years young.
On April 2,1992, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Eugene P. Needham.
Born in Dunmore on February 17,1925, and the daughter of the late Albert and Catherine (Lynch) Frost, Marion was a graduate of Dunmore High School. Upon marriage, she began raising her family of four children before a long career serving as a teachers assistant at N.E.I.U. Until her retirement at age 94, Marion fondly worked with special needs children while never considering it a job. She truly loved and touched the lives of countless students, families and coworkers with kindness and patience.
Marion created countless memories. From hitting in the batting cages of New York Yankees Stadium to being on-set for several game shows including the Price Is Right to twice meeting Mother Theresa and personally giving her hand-crafted rosaries. She loved to travel, frequently went to NYC, and was always ready to go anywhere at anytime. She led an incredibly full life while always being on the move.
Her faith and devotion were everything to Marion. A pillar of St. Patricks Church Parish for over seven decades, she began and ended every day with prayer. Kind and selfless to a fault, she always had the good intentions of others before her own.
Family was her greatest passion. She was the matriarch of the Needham and Frost families and brought generations together and made everyone feel immeasurably loved. Her legacy will long live on the through the four generations of her family she leaves behind.
She is survived by her adored family, including her four children Cathy Berghauser and Mary Needham, both of Scranton, Eugen Needham and wife Debbie of Factoryville, and Daniel Needham and wife Sandy of Scranton: nine grandchildren: 18 great-grandchildren ; a great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
The last survivor of the eight Frost siblings, Marion was preceded in death by Ann Frost, Geraldine Lang, Jeanne McNaughton, Betty Viola, Raymond Frost, John Frost, and Gerald Frost, a grandson, Eric Berghauser; and Vincent Montanino whom she loved like a son.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Friday at 9:15 AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 4-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
