NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Second readings of multiple city ordinances in Nicholasville about electric bicycles and scooters are set for a Monday afternoon city commission meeting.
Nicholasville officials shared a schedule of the Aug. 24 meeting, which is set to include second readings of regulations for e-bikes and electric scooters to establish safety requirements and operational standards for juvenile riders, as well as restrict their use in certain public spaces and provide grounds for how to enforce these new policies.

Officials will also have a second reading for the city’s ordinance prohibiting the use of bicycles on sidewalks by riders over 12 years of age.
On Aug. 3, city residents told FOX 56 news that the time had come for safety reform involving electric vehicles before it leads to tragedy.
“We just don’t want to see our kids killed or hurt,” said the resident. “They’re just not paying attention. They’re going fast. They don’t have the proper safety equipment, aren’t following the traffic laws. They don’t know what the traffic laws are, and it just is extremely, extremely dangerous.”

Nicholasville leaders will also conduct first readings of an ordinance regarding the annexation of a property at the 2000 block of Ashgrove Road, along with city zoning changes to over 26 acres of property on the 2000 block of South Main Street, switching the land from county to residential district zoning. A separate first reading for a similar rezoning ordinance, which would apply to 13.66 acres at the 400 block of Danville Loop, is also scheduled.
