A Scranton man threatened to kill another man at Turkey Hill on Monday, approaching him at the store and grabbing his waistband as he attempted to get away, according to a criminal complaint.
Mason Harris Gray, 35, faces charges assault and making terroristic threats.
According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to the store in the 300 block of Meridian Avenue at about 5 p.m. on a report of a man threatening another.
Willi De Jesus pointed Gray out to police, who was standing in the parking lot. Officers arrested Gray and found a Husky folding knife tucked into the front of his waistband.
Gray told officers De Jesus walked past him and “eyeballed” him, looking him up and down as if he “wanted a problem.”
Gray told police he had threatened to beat up De Jesus, but hadn’t pulled the knife or threatened him with it.
Officers then spoke with De Jesus, who said he was walking out of Turkey Hill when Gray became aggressive with him and threatened to kill and shoot him.
De Jesus said he returned to his vehicle, but Gray continued walking toward him, grabbing and pulling his waistband. He told officers he feared for his life.
Officers obtained surveillance video from the Turkey Hill manager showing De Jesus walking away from Gray, but Gray then following him to his car and grabbing his waistband.
Gray, of 1415 Lafayette St., remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 8 before District Judge Paul Ware.
