The Pennsylvania State Police community is mourning the loss of retired Trooper Gary Knott, a respected law enforcement officer whose remarkable career and unwavering commitment to others left a lasting impact on colleagues, friends, and countless members of the public.
Knott passed away Wednesday in Maryland, leaving behind a legacy defined by service, humility, professionalism, and an extraordinary instinct for police work.
Former Pennsylvania State Police Troop E Commander and retired Captain Dan Hines described Knott as “truly irreplaceable” in a heartfelt tribute shared this week.
Throughout his career, Knott earned a reputation as one of the most skilled and respected troopers in the Pennsylvania State Police. Though modest in stature, colleagues often described him as larger than life. He was known not only for his investigative abilities and sharp instincts, but also for his willingness to help others without seeking recognition.
The community is encouraged to attend a procession on August 27 around 4 p.m. as Trooper Gary Knott comes to a final resting place in Meadville Pennsylvania. Trooper Knott will be traveling all the way from Maryland with a police escort to Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home located at 404 Chestnut Street in Meadville.
The public is asked to not park at the funeral home but to park nearby and walk to line the sidewalks for the arrival. The procession route to the funeral home when it exits I-79 and will be headed East towards Meadville onto Park Avenue. The procession will then take a right on Chestnut Street to the Funeral Home those wanting to attend can stand anywhere along this route.
