Jack Trent, named in May as Allentown School District’s first permanent chief financial officer in three years, is now set to stay on with the Easton Area School District.

Trent was scheduled to assume his new duties this week, but he was missing from the district’s first school board meeting of the 2026-27 school year.

Herman James, ASD chief of talent management & labor relations, told The Morning Call that Trent had rescinded his acceptance of the job offer and that the district would post an opening to continue its search for a permanent CFO. He added that the district is “not concerned at this point.”

“One good thing is we have two great leaders who have a number of years of experience working in finance,” James said, referencing interim CFOs Jeffrey Cuff and Richard Fazio.

Cuff and Fazio were brought out of retirement for a temporary assignment that originally was set to last only three months. They already were scheduled to continue with the district for a transition period this fall.

Cuff, who was in his usual place as the budget point person for Thursday’s board meeting, declined to comment. Trent did not immediately return a request for comment Thursday; Easton’s school board voted to rescinded his resignation Aug. 11.

Trent’s appointment had included a $200,000 starting salary, according to board documents.
