WILKES-BARRE, Pa, (WOLF) — Pennsylvania American Water and its partner, CDM Smith, plan to begin a door-to-door canvassing effort in Wilkes-Barre next week to identify the material of customer-owned water service lines.
City officials say more than 10,000 customer service lines in Wilkes-Barre are of unknown material.
Beginning on or around Sept. 1, CDM Smith representatives will ask residents for permission to inspect service lines on their property. Door hangers will be left after an inspection or attempted visit.
Pennsylvania American Water says homeowners will receive advance notices through postcards and emails.
Canvassers will wear high-visibility safety vests, carry American Water identification badges and have program windshield signs displayed in their vehicles.
Residents who would rather schedule an inspection can call CDM Smith at 717-581-8599, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or schedule online at calendly.com/leadfreepa.
