LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. — A 29-year-old man is recovering after a scary fall at a popular hiking spot in Lehigh County.
Multiple crews responded to the area of Bear Rock along the Appalachian Trail in Heidelberg Township around 10:30 Sunday morning.
Upon further investigation, crews discovered that the man fell sometime Saturday night and was not able to call for help.
The man was then able to crawl his way back to his cell phone to dial 911 Sunday morning.
That’s when crews came to his rescue using UTV’s to help pull him out.
“They’re essential for getting in and out of this trail; it’s too tight for us to get fire trucks in there,” said Randy Metzger, Deputy Chief of Germansville Fire Department. “Rather than banging up these fire trucks, a UTV makes it a lot more accessible.”
It took crews about two hours to rescue the man.
He was transported to the hospital for his injuries.
