Jaksa Pejovic led four players in double figures with a game-high 20 points as Lackawanna College defeated Penn State-Hazleton, 85-80, in a men’s basketball game Thursday at the Lackawanna College Student Union.
After Hazleton trimmed a 15-point second-half deficit to 75-74 with under four minutes left, Pejovic hit a three-point play and a basket on consecutive possessions to give Lackawanna an 80-76 lead. Hazleton never got closer than three the rest of the way.
Pejovic was 5 for 11 from the field and 9 of 11 from the foul line. He also had a team-high four steals.
Matthew Nora added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Falcons (2-1). Jahsan Simms chipped in 12 points, while Noah McIntosh finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
Wrestling
At Boston, Keystone College lost to Emmanuel College in its first dual meet of the season, 47-9.
Ralph Nieves won by a 15-9 decision at 149 pounds for the Giants, while Nero Bono had a pin in 4:33 at 285 pounds.
Women’s volleyball
At Wayne, New Jersey, the University of Scranton closed out its regular season with a 3-2 win over William Paterson University by scores of 22-25, 25-15, 25-17, 21-25, 15-11.
Deanna Whelpley led the Royals (20-10) with 20 kills, four digs and two blocks. Danielle Kramer had 15 kills, two aces and two blocks. Cammi Quirk totaled 50 assists, five aces and seven digs, while Camryn Hoffman collected 22 digs and three assists.
Scranton will host a Landmark Conference semifinal Nov. 13.
Marywood 3, Centenary 0: At Scranton on Wednesday, Marywood University won an Atlantic East Conference match, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19, at Insalaco Arena.
Taylor Hallam, Carolina Samaniego and Gracee Work each had eight kills for the Pacers (23-4 overall, 4-2 league), while Taylor Howard had seven kills and a team-high three blocks. Ayla Bransford totaled 33 assists, three service aces and seven digs. Catie Woolf led with 19 digs, while Andrea Fraga added 11.
Marywood hosts Saint Elizabeth University in its regular-season finale Saturday at 1. The Pacers are in a three-way tie for second in the conference standings. In the event of a three-way tie, they hold the tiebreaker on sets lost between the three teams.
