An active pattern is developing for the early days of September with rising heat and humid plus daily chances for showers or storms. Wednesday is now a Severe Weather Alert Day for scattered afternoon storms; Thursday remains an Impact Day.
Summer-like start to September
The “muggies” return with rising heat and humidity. The hottest day of the week will be Wednesday with highs in the lower 90s and feel like temperatures in mid to upper 90s.
Cloud coverage and unsettled weather could complicate the temperature forecast. The added clouds would tone down some of the heat, but not the humidity.
Upgrading mid-week thunderstorm chances
Storm coverage ramps up mid- to late-week.
The coverage of showers and thunderstorms will expand by mid-week. The best chance will stretch between late Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday afternoon is a Severe Weather Alert Day; Thursday remains an Impact Day for now. Severe weather is possible with damaging winds and large hail threats.

Drying out for Labor Day weekend
Showers and storms will likely hang around Friday, especially south of Pittsburgh. Quieter weather arrives just in time for Labor Day weekend. Our area will enjoy dry and more comfortable conditions.
Labor Day weekend will be more enjoyable after an unsettled end to the work week.
