According to AAA, gas prices are projected to set a new record this month.
Due to tensions in the Middle East, crude oil prices remain in the $80 per barrel range.
Right now, the national average for a gallon of gas stands at $4.09.
“Gas prices vary significantly state to state, even day to day. We’re seeing oil prices jump three percent today on new weekend escalations,” says Patrick De Haan, Head of Petroleum Analysis at GasBuddy.
AAA says this is the most expensive August at the pump since 2022.
Drivers are certainly taking notice.
“It’s really hard to keep up with, it’s just so high sometimes. I’m afraid it’s gonna go to six dollars, you know what I mean? How am I gonna get to work?” asks one driver in Allentown.
The record high prices are hitting just as many people are getting ready to hit the road for Labor Day weekend.
Experts suggest downloading apps like GasBuddy to find the cheapest place near you when filling up your tank and fill up sooner rather than later.
“In the run up to Labor Day, we may see gas prices inching up as well. So, sooner may be a better time to fill your tank rather if you’re planning to hit the road,” says De Haan.
