WEST MIFFLIN, PA —Bacon and cheese are common toppings on french fries. Scorpions, not so much.

That’s about to change.

Some likely will be revolted by this idea, but on Saturday, Kennywood will have five contestants compete in the West Mifflin amusement park’s first Phantom’s Scorpion Showdown. It will feature five contestants seeing who can be the first to finish an order of Kennywood’s famed Potato Patch fries topped with a whole dried scorpion.

You read that correctly. A whole dried scorpion. Yikes.

Kennywood clearly is preparing for a contestant or two to be unable to complete the competition.

“Once a Kennywood representative announces the start of the contest, the first entrant to eat the entire dried scorpion and fries and stick out their clean tongue will be declared the winner,” the contest rules state. “An entrant vomiting before eating all of the scorpion and sticking out their clean tongue shall result in disqualification.”

According to pest control company Terminix, most scorpions are between 1 and 5 inches in length, although some can be as large as 8 inches long.

Hungry yet?

Whoever is the first to finish their scorpion-topped Potato Patch fries will win two 2026 Gold Season Passes and a prize pack that includes a hoodie, hat and drawstring bag. All participants will receive two Chills Speedy Passes to skip the line at each sinister haunt found throughout the park’s Phantom Fall Fest.

The chow down begins at 7 p.m. sharp at the Kennyville Stage. Sign-ups are first-come, first-served, starting at 6:30 p.m. near the Kennyville Stage. All contestants must be at least 18 years old and complete a waiver to participate; five main contestants and two alternates will be selected.
