READING, Pa. – Evacuations are now underway as a result of a major fire on Neversink Mountain in Reading.
Berks County Communications confirms a brush fire was reported at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Neversink Mountain Road in Alsace Township.
The fire quickly spread, and optional evacuations have begun in the area of South 18th and 19th Streets in Reading, and in the area of Ganter Lane and Neversink Mountain Road in Lower Alsace Township. Residents in those areas are asked to evacuate to the Amanda E. Stout Elementary School located at 321 South 10th Street in Reading.
Officials say Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) personnel are on the scene.
Firefighters are requesting donations and supplies to support fire crews be dropped off at the Plum and Franklin Fire station in Reading.
