The City of Erie has officially declared a state of emergency. Last night severe weather caused significant damage throughout the city.
City crews have been working to clear debris and roadways while assessing damage. The city stated that their immediate priority is to clear the streets to ensure safe travels for residents.
Crews will be continuing to assess immediate impacts of the storm while determining what else is needed to address these issues.
They reassure that all City crews are aware of the downed trees throughout the city. If additional trees fall onto a city street, crews will respond accordingly to clear them as efficiently as possible.
Residents are not encouraged to remove downed trees from roadways themselves and if a tree has fallen onto personal property residents should take immediate action if safe to do so to protect their property from further damage.
All damage should be documented before contacting their homeowner’s insurance company for additional assistance.
Any storm debris should be placed between the curbs and sidewalks for collection.
Residents are encouraged to stay away from any downed trees due to the possibility of them being under tension or in contact with any electrical lines.
Any trees or large branches that have fallen on homes should be reported to residents’ insurance companies. Anyone trapped in their home or encountering an immediate emergency should contact 911.
Trees or large branches on city boulevards should be reported to Matthew Falcone at (814) 923-3597 or through a credited arborist.
Downed power lines should be avoided, and every powerline should be treated as an energized line, residents are encouraged to call 911 to report it.
Refuse collection will continue as normal. Missed garbage is being collected by refuse crews.
