HAMBURG, Pa. – Jason Krause, owner of Brewers Bar and Grill in West Reading, has been competing in Hamburg’s annual burger competition for three years.
Krause says this year, he’s competing with some of his favorite creations yet.
“This is our ‘Moon Rogie burger,’ we call it,” said Krause.
It’s one of the five they’re competing with, covered in sautéed onions and two fried pierogies.
“Then the special moon sauce that we do here in-house,” said Krause.
Hamburg’s 23rd annual Taste of Hamburg-er festival is Saturday.
Eight blocks of downtown Hamburg will be filled with more than 200 vendors, 47 different burgers, and plenty of live entertainment.
“We have tons of food, tons of burgers. If you’re a burger lover, you will find something that you absolutely love,” said Lynn Weller, executive director of Our Town Foundation.
Weller says there will be tons of interesting combinations, including burgers on sticky buns, donuts, and even apple pie.
You can even vote for your favorite creation.
“It’s called the Popular Patty Pick,” said Weller.
Weller says admission is free, and all the proceeds will go to a good cause.
“You’re benefiting a lot of organizations and the work that’s done in Hamburg,” said Weller.
Krause says the festival’s about more than just burgers; it’s about giving back.
“They bring out a lot of people, and it’s a great turnout, and I think it does a lot for everybody in the community,” said Krause.
The festival is Saturday, September 5th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
