NEWARK VALLEY, N.Y. (WBNG) — The Newark Valley Historical Society is hosting a special memorial service honoring the nearly 3,000 victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. at the Lehigh Valley Ray Shaver Depot, and marks the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.
Dennis Mullen of the Veterans Association will host the event, with speeches from Don Castellucci, Wendy Post, Dean Morgan and Peter Gordon.
Musical performances by Rick Pedro, Ryan Wilson and Valley Harmony will provide opportunities for reflection and community healing.
Attendees can also participate in a physical challenge hosted by Berkshire-based Country Fit, featuring equipment configured to simulate the 1,355-foot climb made by Ground Zero first responders.
The depot will close during the main ceremony and reopen around 6 p.m. for additional music and refreshments.
The entire community is invited to gather, pay tribute to those who were lost and honor the sacrifices made by emergency personnel a quarter-century ago.
