READING, Pa. – Berks County’s annual deer management program is just around the corner.
The program allows archery-only hunting in areas where hunting is usually forbidden. That includes on Mount Penn and in Antietam Lake Park.
The program is meant to help reduce deer populations and rebalance the local ecosystem.
Hunters have to apply for the permit, pass a proficiency test and attend an orientation before setting out for the woods.
The program begins on Sept. 19 and goes through Jan. 24, 2027.
