HAMBURG, Pa. – A Berks County town celebrated what might be the most American meal of all: the hamburger.
“The hamburger was invented in Hamburg, Germany, centuries ago. Now, people from all over come to Hamburg, Pennsylvania, for the Taste of Hamburger festival.”
A small town brought some big flavor as hundreds of people swarmed Hamburg on Saturday for its 23rd Taste of Hamburg-er Festival.
“What’s better than eating some burgers with your buddies and having a good time?” said Braydon Brown.
Some attendees were trying to eat as many as possible.
“I’m going to try and eat at least 25 burgers,” one man said.
Others just tried one here and there.
“This is my first one” said Jacquelyne Arnold. “My second one’s waiting for me at the smash taco burgers.”
From simple recipes to new creations, there were big, bold flavors for everyone.
“The chocolate burger is like chocolate and marshmallow sauce and peanut butter,” Arnold said. “That one’s different; it’s unique.”
More than 40 vendors competed for the public’s vote for best burger. 69 News asked what would create the perfect one.
“A smash burger with chopped ribeye on top of the burger with their house sauce,” Brown said.
The most unique recipe they’ve seen: “Glazed doughnut burger,” one man said. “I heard they’re fantastic, so I want to try one next.”
“It’s really sweet — it’s like a sweet and savory,” said Rylee Holtzman. “It has marshmallows and peanut butter on it, and it’s like a chocolate-glazed doughnut.”
