(WHTM) – The leader of Central Pennsylvania’s builders’ unions says his organization supports the construction of AI data centers, but wants them built “responsibly.”
“The residents of those communities next to the data centers, they have every right to demand they’re built responsibly, with concerns about the water and the economic impacts, ” said Jim Enders, President of The Central Pennsylvania Building & Construction Trades Council. “We want to do the work, but we want them to be built responsibly.”
The council is made up of carpenters, iron workers, laborers, and other construction workers who could be instrumental in the creation of data centers, which are increasingly unpopular among Pennsylvania residents.
Enders says these projects will require millions of man-hours and billions of dollars in investment.
“It’s an unprecedented opportunity among all the other work that’s coming down the line. The data centers are definitely a big deal.”
