summer is nearly on its way out, and for people wanting to make the holiday weekend eventful, they may be out of luck. Presque Isle is still closed tonight due to the storm we had earlier this week, and the shutdown is hitting hard.

The summer season is winding down, making everyone squeeze in any last-minute summer plans this Labor Day weekend.

But this past week’s storms got in the way.

Crews all over Erie are still dealing with the aftermath, working around the clock and trying to get the power back up across the peninsula.

Presque Isle officials share that no one is still allowed in the park. That includes no boat beaching or mooring. The only area open is the marina tenants section, strictly for original tenants checking on their boats.

All morning, park rangers and officials had a busy start to their day.

“As you can see behind me, park rangers have been redirecting traffic all morning long, informing everybody that the park is still closed until further notice, changing everybody’s plans for the holiday weekend,” Stephanie Logue reported.

With multiple people disappointed they can’t carry out their plans at Presque Isle, we met one traveler from Jamestown who shared his disappointment.

“Well, this is probably one of the last weekends we could actually go to the beach. This would be a perfect opportunity to do so. Of course, we’re pretty bummed, especially for my four-year-old. He really wanted to come today, and we’ve got to figure out what we’re going to do for the rest of the day. It was kind of a little waste for us. We just bought all the toys and everything for today, but I guess, you know, it is what it is,” Ryan Garris, a traveler from Jamestown, New York, shared.

Crews will keep working until everything is safe. Once everything gets settled, they’ll update everyone.
