This is the second year the RailRiders’ stadium hosted a stair climb.

Everyone climbed over 2,000 stairs representing 110 floors in each of the Twin Towers. The towers that first responders rushed into in New York City to help.

16-year-old Simon Pollard is a junior firefighter for the West Wyoming Hose Company, climbing the stairs in full gear. “It’s just the right thing to do. People in the department have talked about doing it, that we should do it, and it’s definitely good experience to do and to have, come out here, honor those people; it’s a great feeling,” he said.

And while Pollard was not alive when the Twin Towers fell, other people at the climb were.

People like Debra Bell, who moved to the area after leaving Long Island; her brother was in New York City when the towers fell. “Luckily, and I know sometimes he had business meetings at the Twin Towers at the restaurant there, so I was beside myself. I thought, ‘Oh my God, what if, what if he’s in the towers?’ We had a lot of friends who worked in the towers, luckily they were in the other buildings and escaped.>

Each and every step here helping to honor their memory

Each and every step helping to remember people

“This is our nation; this is the remembrance of something that terrible that happened, but it’s just to show our support and our love and let people know that we haven’t forgotten and that we will never forget,” said Ronald Freeman, stairclimber.

“It was something that just crushed you, and if you’re 25 years out from it, you’ve got to learn about it. Because those who fail to remember repeat,” said Bell.

With stair climbs like this that honor the legacy of the people who gave their lives 25 years ago.
