‘It has always been a concern:’ 4 The Record takes a look at the future of infrastructure
Tuesday’s special one-hour edition of 4 The Record included interviews with Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor and an assistant construction engineer from PennDOT as they discussed future infrastructure projects and concerns in Pittsburgh

Tuesday’s special weekday, hour-long edition of 4 The Record spotlighted the future of infrastructure in Pittsburgh.
One of the bigger infrastructure projects our city will see in the near future is work on the Parkway Central Bathtub.
“The purpose of the project is to increase the height of the flood wall in order to reduce the frequency of flooding at that location,” said Michael Adams, assistant construction engineer for PennDOT District 11.
“It has always been a concern,” Adams later added.
50,000 vehicles a day utilize that stretch of road.
The major impact of the work is expected to be felt in a 12-day full closure of the Bathtub section of the Parkway Central, expected to happen in the Summer of 2027.
Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor also appeared on the episode, reflecting on the recent replacement of the Commercial Street Bridge and the reopening of the Panther Hollow Bridge.
“We are the city of Bridges,” said Mayor O’Connor. “There’s a lot to it. It’s connecting you to your everyday life. I don’t know, a day we’re in this job that I’m not traveling over a bridge to get somewhere in Pittsburgh.”
Erienne Olesh, executive director of Innovation and Commercialization at West Virginia University, also appeared on Tuesday’s show.
