First candidate announces run to be Philly’s next mayor – NBC10 Philadelphia

Philadelphia’s mayor has her first challenger in the upcoming race for the top office in the city.

Shania Bennett, 26, took to social media on Tuesday, Sept. 8 to announce that she is running to become Philadelphia’s mayor.

In the post, Bennett says her announcement is for people who want “transformational leadership and transparent representation.”

In March of 2024, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker appointed Bennett to be the Director of the Office of Youth Engagement.

Bennett is hosting a campaign kickoff event on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m.

NBC10 has reached out to Mayor Parker’s office for comment and we have not yet heard back.
