BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. – A Northampton County school is breaking ground on a new building.
Notre Dame High School is going to begin construction on it’s new Academic Fieldhouse for students and athletes.
69 News Reporter Cierra Genelle got a look at the construction site in Bethlehem Township.
“I think it helps the students to grow,” said Matthew Delaney, a senior at Notre Dame High School.
The school is going out with the old and in with the new.
“I actually went to high school here in the 90’s, and it looked and smelled the same as it did when I was here in the 90’s,” laughed Notre Dame High School alumni Jacque Flynn. “A new building will replace a building that was bult in the 70s,” Flynn said.
Flynn is digging into her roots. The former student works for the school’s Development and Alumni Relations Department.
She said the building is going to become an upgraded workspace to better suit the success of students and staff going forward”
“As students, it helps us become better at all that we do,” said Delaney.
A ceremony was held on the Crusader’s home turf to break ground on Friday morning.
Current students poured into the stands to show their support. They will soon walk the halls of the three story, 40,000 square ft. building.
“We’re calling it the ‘Academic Field House’. We might eventually name it after one of our generous donors,” said Jaclyn Friel, Notre Dame High School Principal.
“100% of our students will actually be using this building with the classrooms in there, and then we’ll have facilities for all of our athletes,” said Flynn.
Flynn said the doors will open in the 2026-2027 school year and it’s all thanks to the community support.
“We’ve actually been working on this for about 18 months, and we’ve raised $8.2 million,” Flynn said. “Years of planning and dreaming, and now it’s actually happening.”
Because the road to success is always under construction.
