SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new project to update Scranton’s aging water mains is happening sooner rather than later.
Pennsylvania American Water announced the $5 million project to replace roughly one mile of aging water main. The work was supposed to start in 2028, but now it’s been moved up to next year.
Improvements will start along North Washington Avenue between Lackawanna Avenue and Gibson Street and along Mulberry Street between North Washington and Madison Avenues.
Scranton ‘nuisance bar’ ends nightclub operations
On Thursday, people around downtown Scranton told 28/22 News they are excited for this downtown investment.
“Seems like every other week there’s a break and some part of town is out of water, and you can’t have that. It interrupts business, commerce, you have to keep things going. I think they should redo the whole thing, I think it’s a great idea,” Scranton resident, James Harding, said.
The water line construction in the Electric City is set to begin in the spring.
