The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an emergency order restricting air carrier operations at 40 airports, which could impact travelers going to and from Erie International Airport.

That list includes airports in Tampa, Orlando and Charlotte, which are travel destinations that the Erie airport flies to and from.

Carriers will be required to decrease their operations by 4% beginning on Nov. 7, with the number climbing up to 10% by Nov. 14.

Derek Martin is the executive director of the Erie International Airport. He said that the airport has not had any interruptions in its flights so far.

“As of right now, we’ve had no interruptions in service,” Martin said. “The TSA, Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection, and people in the FAA tower are all working without pay as this shutdown continues.”

Martin said to be aware of travel issues. The best thing for people to do is to check their travel apps, as the airlines will push information there before anywhere else.
