Shirlene M. Kutz, of Mount Holly Springs, was driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla out of a private driveway at 1561 Holly Pike in South Middleton Township around 9:43 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Carlisle.
Kutz attempted to turn left onto Holly Pike but entered the roadway without enough clearance, investigators said.
As her Toyota crossed into the northbound lane, it was struck on the driver’s side front corner by a northbound 2015 Volvo VNL commercial vehicle, according to the crash report.
The truck continued a short distance before coming to a controlled stop along the left shoulder, police said. Kutz’s Toyota came to an uncontrolled stop along the right shoulder.
Emergency crews extricated Kutz from the wreckage, and Cumberland Goodwill Fire Rescue EMS took her to UPMC Carlisle, where she later died from her injuries, according to police.
The commercial vehicle driver suffered a suspected minor injury but was not taken to a hospital, the report states.
Both drivers were wearing lap and shoulder belts, investigators noted.
Holly Pike remained closed for approximately three hours while crews cleared the crash and police investigated.
Kutz’s next of kin has been notified.
She was predeceased by her husband, David G. Kutz, who died in December 2023, according to his obituary. She is survived by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Details about Kutz’s own life were not immediately available. Her family is invited to share funeral information, a statement, and photos by emailing [email protected].
