In 2025, there were 6,304 crashes caused by deer, which was lower than the 6,430 figure reported in 2024. That equals roughly 17 daily crashes caused by deer.
The whitetail deer is considered the deadliest animal in Pennsylvania, according to a survey publishsed in August. Between 2021 and 2025, deer have caused 78 fatalities due to crashes on Pennsylvania roadways.

Peaking at 26 in 2023, the numbers have come down each of the last three years, but have not fallen into single digits since 2022, according to PennDOT data.
PennDOT data shows that more than 30,600 crashes were caused by deer in this same time frame, marking a fatality rate of 0.3%. However, from 2021-2025, around 6,850 crashes led to injury, or a little over 22% of total crashes.
