ERIE PA- Canfield’s girls golf squad went north and came home with some hardware. The Cardinals’ Black team finished off a strong two-day run by winning the Erie McDowell Tournament, holding off Hoover by 10 strokes to grab the team championship.
Canfield came out firing on Day 1, with Alex Conley and Aubree Philibin both flirting with the school record. Conley carded a 72, just two shots off Canfield’s school-record 70, while Philibin was right on her heels with a 73. Laney Kleeh added a 77, and Sophia DiDomenico turned in an 81.
The Cardinals stayed on the gas on Day 2. Conley followed her opening-round 72 with a 73, earning overall runner-up honors for the tournament. Kleeh went one shot better than her opening round with a 76, finishing fourth overall, while Philibin posted an 83 and still locked down a fifth-place overall finish. DiDomenico’s Day 2 score was listed as 85
It wasn’t just the Black squad making noise. Canfield’s Red team battled its way up the leaderboard and finished sixth, putting together a strong second day to close out the tournament.
Rhyloh Turpack paced the Red squad with an 84 on Day 1, followed by Ella Horne at 99, Laney Allen at 100 and Reagan Cvetkovic at 105.
Allen made one of Canfield’s biggest moves on Day 2, chopping 12 strokes off her opening round to fire an 88. Turpack and Horne each came into the clubhouse with 92s, while Cvetkovic finished with a 103.
Two teams, plenty of low numbers, three top-five individual finishes and a tournament championship coming back to Canfield. Not a bad trip to Erie for the Cards.
