PENNSYLVANIA, (WTAJ) — Is the world of “The Terminator” closer than we think? Attorney General Dave Sunday released a statement Monday responding to comments made by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.
“As I have said repeatedly,” said Sunday, “the advancement of technology and public safety cannot be mutually exclusive.”
Over the weekend, Amodei warned that without a slowdown in development, within six to 12 months, AI could be capable of taking over the internet.

“We must finally put up the guardrails around these potentially dangerous engines before something catastrophic happens,” Sunday added, “so that we can reap the benefits technology can provide while protecting ourselves from the potential harm that has been warned of so starkly over the past week. “
In a Facebook post, Gov. Josh Shapiro echoed similar concerns, calling on the federal government to establish guardrails not only here in the U.S., but internationally.
“We don’t let pharmaceutical companies develop drugs and put them right out on to the market — they must go through the FDA first,” Shaprio said. “We don’t let aircraft manufacturers make an airplane and put commercial passengers on it right off the assembly line — the FAA sets strict standards before flight. AI shouldn’t be treated any differently. We need federal oversight.”

Lawmakers across Pennsylvania have been racing to introduce legislation aimed at protecting against the potential risks of artificial intelligence in various aspects of daily life, including employment decisions, mental health services and other areas where safeguards may be needed.
