Officials have identified the man killed Saturday in Northampton County and the man accused of killing him.
Ryan Yaindl, 26, of West Easton, is charged with homicide in the death of Jason Derr, who was his mother’s boyfriend, according to Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta.
State police were called about 9 a.m. Saturday to the 100 block of Spring Street for a report of a shooting. Yaindl and his mother were outside the home, and Yaindl told troopers he was the one who “shot,” Baratta said in a news release.
Derr, 52, was found on the second floor of the home, unconscious with gunshot wound trauma, the DA said. Derr was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baratta said police determined there was a physical altercation between Derr and his girlfriend, and Yaindl wanted to intervene. Derr encountered Yaindl on the second floor, and Yaindl fired several shots, killing him, the release states.
“I think I killed him, call 911,” Yaindl said after the shooting, according to police.
Yaindl was arraigned on the homicide charge Saturday night, and was sent to Northampton County Prison without bail.
