READING, Pa. – Summer may be coming to an end, but Reading is already making plans for next summer.
Monday night, City Council is expected to award a contract for more than four-and-a-half million dollars to build a new splashpad to replace the former Hillside Pool.
The 5,500 square foot space will feature three different sections that’ll allow children of all ages and abilities to play.
There will also be new bathrooms, pavilions and a concession stand.
The splashpad will operate similar to the Schlegel Park Pool, costing a small fee to enter.
“As the summer months seem to get hotter and hotter, these offer cost effective and safe ways for kids and families and our community to cool down,” says Managing Director Jack Gombach.
The project also includes renovations to the basketball court and parking lot.
Construction is expected to be completed by Memorial Day.
