Officials have identified the two people killed in separate crashes Friday night in Lehigh County.
Adam Reed, 39, of Fountain Hill died after his motorcycle was hit by a vehicle about 9 p.m. in the 1100 block of East Susquehanna Street in Salisbury Township, according to Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.
Reed was taken St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill, where he died from his injuries about an hour later.
The Lehigh County district attorney’s office said an SUV traveling east crossed over the double yellow line to pass another vehicle and hit Reed, who was traveling west, head-on. The driver of the SUV was taken into custody with charges pending, DA Gavin Holihan said Saturday.
Reed’s death was caused by multiple blunt-force trauma, with the manner accidental.
In the second crash, Angelica M. Rivera-Perez, 42, died after a vehicle hit her motor scooter about 11:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Fourth Street in Allentown, according to the coroner. She was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where she died from her injuries about three hours later.
Her death was also caused by multiple blunt-force trauma, with the manner accidental.
Rivera-Perez was riding her scooter with two others when she was hit by an SUV from behind, the DA’s office said. The driver, Eliezer Julius Santiago, 22, of Allentown, fled the scene, according to Holihan. He was arrested after he almost hit a police vehicle that was responding to the crash, authorities said.
Witnesses reported Santiago had been driving erratically before the crash, police said.
He was initially charged with aggravated assault by vehicle and accidents involving death or injury while not licenses, as well as misdemeanor drug offenses. Additional charges are expected to reflect Rivera-Perez’s death.
He remains in Lehigh County Jail under $500,000 bail.
