UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. – A motorcyclist is dead after a crash with a dump truck in Upper Macungie Township Monday morning.
The 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the crash in the area of Route 222 N. and Cetronia Road, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio said in a news release.
Upper Macungie police say the crash happened at 8:52 a.m. A dump truck was driving Northbound and was unable to stop and struck the motorcycle in the rear tire, authorities say.
The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The man was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, Buglio said.
The driver of the dump truck was uninjured, according to police.
Buglio said an autopsy will be completed Monday at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center to assist in determining the cause of death.
The man has been positively identified, but the coroner’s office is currently in the process of locating and notifying his family and next of kin, Buglio said.
Buglio said his identity will be released once the appropriate notifications have been completed.
In addition to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center, the Upper Macungie Township Police Department, the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, and the Lehigh County Crash Team are investigating.
