GLASGOW, Ky. (WBKO) – Glasgow City Council held the first reading of Ordinance 2026 Monday night, which establishes the 2026 tax rate for the city of Glasgow.
Council members said they are trying to keep taxes affordable while still paying for police, fire, streets, water and gas.
“We have pretty low property taxes here in Glasgow. … I’m comfortable with going to one-sixty-four as long as we understand we cannot continue to lower these prices below what’s necessary for us to keep the city running,” Glasgow city council member Joe Trigg said.
After discussion, the council voted unanimously to approve the tax rate on first reading.
A final vote on the ordinance will come at a later meeting.
City officials said they are watching every penny to avoid raising the burden on taxpayers while still keeping essential services funded.
