A new traveling exhibit is now on display in Erie, highlighting Pennsylvania women who fought for the right to vote and the important role the Justice Bell played in that movement.
The exhibit, “The Justice Bell and the Fight for the Vote,” takes visitors through the history of Pennsylvania women who organized, marched and advocated for voting rights.
And Erie has a special connection to that history.
In 1913, local suffragists organized one of Pennsylvania’s first major women’s suffrage parades during the city’s Perry Centennial celebration.
Two years later, the Justice Bell traveled across Pennsylvania, helping rally support for women’s voting rights.
The exhibit features historic photographs and stories of the women behind the movement, giving visitors a closer look at the people who helped push the fight for suffrage forward.
It also encourages visitors to think about the importance of civic participation today and the role individuals can play in their communities.
The traveling exhibit is now on display at Blasco Memorial Library and will remain there through October 14.
