SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Only seven weeks until the Midterm elections this November, and voters planning to vote in November are encouraged to confirm whether they are registered this election season.
Before heading to the polls or the drop box, Director of Elections for Lackawanna County, Beth Hopkins, says National Voter Registration Day reminds voters to update their record or register for the first time before it’s too late.
“We want to make sure that there are no issues with your registration and that you get it in time so you’re ready to go on November 3rd,” Hopkins said.
While it’s not an official holiday like Election Day, National Voter Registration Day highlights several different ways to register or modify your registration ahead of the upcoming Election.
“You can register to vote at the counter; we’re here to assist you with any questions you may have; you could do it online again at vote.PA.gov, or you can contact our office, and we’re happy to mail out a voter registration form,” Hopkins said.
Speaking of mail, Hopkins says that for folks in Lackawanna County who would prefer to vote by mail, they can request a mail-in ballot by October 27th and drop it off at one of six drop boxes throughout the county.
“All of those sites will be posted on our website once the ballots go out in the mail and voters have the opportunity to utilize the drop boxes,” Hopkins said.
Even though this is a midterm election, Hopkins says it’s just as important to vote this election cycle and make sure you are registered to make your voice heard.
“Every elected official affects your life in some way, so I think it’s important that everybody should vote in every election,” Hopkins said. “Whether it’s a municipal election or a general election year or a presidential election year, every election is important.”
