A Wilkes-Barre woman raised her arm to a Scranton police officer Saturday as he was attempting to detain her at a hotel, according to a criminal complaint.
Carrie MacCollum, 38, of Essex Lane, is charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkeness.
According to the criminal complaint, just before midnight, police responded to the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center for the report of an intoxicated woman in the lobby demanding a refund.
Both police officers and staff asked her to simply leave the hotel, but she refused, according to the complaint.
Officers noted she was slurring her words, smelled of alcohol and had glossy eyes — all signs of intoxication.
Police then attempted to take MacCollum into custody, but she pulled away from them and refused to put her hands behind her back.
At one point she raised her right arm toward an officer’s face. Officers took her to the ground and arrested her.
As officers were waiting for emergency personnel to evaluate MacCollum, who had hit her forehead as she was being arrested, she continued to be disorderly and kicked hotel furniture.
She admitted she had consumed alcohol at a local brewery, police said.
Hotel personnel told officers that MacCollum told them she was going to get behind the wheel of her car, which is when they decided to contact police.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 23 before District Judge Paul Keeler.
