SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) —
Scranton police announced the arrest of 17-year-old Justin Joel Sikaffy charged as an adult for two attempted armed robberies with a stolen pistol.
Police responded around 11:44 p.m. Monday to the area of Quincy Avenue and Vine Street for a report of a male pointing a firearm at a woman.
The victim told police the suspect approached her while she was on her porch, pointed a handgun at her and demanded money before fleeing on foot empty handed.
A short time later around 12:54 a.m. Tuesday police received a report of an attempted carjacking in the area of Crown Avenue.
The second victim reported the suspect approached her vehicle, displayed a gun and demanded she exit the vehicle.
As the woman exited the car, the vehicle rolled down a hill and hit a fence.
The suspect then fled the scene.
Police units quickly established a perimeter and contained the suspect.
A k-9 unit was deployed and successfully tracked the suspect hiding in a South Scranton yard.
The firearm was recovered in a parking lot where the suspect tossed it.
Sikaffy is charged as an adult with 2 counts of felony robbery, 2 counts felony evading arrest, felony firearms carried without a license, 2 counts of terroristic threats, 2 counts of aggravated assault, 2 counts of recklessly endangering another person, resisting, and receiving stolen property.
The investigation remains active and more charges are likely.
