The No. 5 Rowan Men’s Soccer team drew 0-0 against the No. 9 University of Scranton on Wednesday evening at the Rowan Soccer and Lacrosse Complex in Glassboro, New Jersey.
Another tough and physical game for the Profs, but another shutout too, putting them at four wins and one draw on the season.
“Defense wins championships; we want to score goals,” said head coach Scott Baker. “But if we can look down teams, this is our second shutout in a row, and if we can shut out teams that are this caliber, we’re going to put ourselves in a good position to move on in the NCAA tournament.”
Rowan had chances, but weren’t able to capitalize.
“It’s hard to score goals; just in general, it’s hard to score goals,” said Baker. “We gotta keep setting up chances, and the goals are gonna come. We don’t want our guys nervous or scared of this when they do get their shots, so we gotta keep creating the opportunities.”
The best chance from Rowan came in the 15th minute of the game. A cross came to freshman DJ Mosley in the box, and Mosley headed the ball to Scranton keeper Justin Scavalla.
“I knew the ball was probably coming, so I tried to make sure I could be there for Luke [McNamee],” said Mosley. “I definitely wanted it back…If I finish it, great. If I don’t, I gotta get back and support the team, because they’re [Scranton] coming right back at us.”
Despite the draw, the team is still keeping a positive mindset.
“I think it’s positive because we’re upset with the draw,” said senior captain Luke McNamee. “I think we deserve to win that game, but sometimes in life you don’t get what you deserve.”
The Profs now look to the road, where they will face Manhattanville this upcoming Sunday.
