It’s the final full week of summer. Autumn officially arrives at 8:04 p.m. on Sept. 22.

In terms of PIAA high school football, summer’s departure and fall’s arrival means the season is moving along quickly. By the end of September, the season is half over and the regular season officially ends on Halloween.

Of course, the best teams have visions of competing deep into November and even December when the state finals are held at Cumberland Valley High School.

The teams likely to be playing on the weekend of Dec. 10-12 at Chapman Field are listed in the latest state rankings compiled by Eric Epler of Pennlive.com.

Of special note to Lehigh Valley football fans are Parkland moving up two spots in Class 6A, Southern Lehigh, last year’s 4A state champ, holding steady in 5A and Northwestern Lehigh and Notre Dame-Green Pond being ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in 3A.
