OLEY, PA. – The annual Oley Valley Community Fair has become a tradition for many.
“I’ve attended every fair every year because I just love the Oley Fair,” said 98-year-old Virginia Reichert.
Reichert helped cut the ribbon Thursday at this year’s opening ceremony. She says she still remembers the first-ever Oley Fair.
“They had a lot of tents all over the place, and it was all lit up like I’ve never seen it before,” said Reichert.
Even after 79 years, she says visiting the fair has never gotten old.
“There are so many things going on; I look forward to them,” said Reichert
The fair has animals, live music, rides, special events, and baked goods.
“A lot of labor, a lot of time went into it,”
Walking inside the fair, one of the first things you’ll see is the bake sale and cider stall, which has become a tradition for seniors like Anaya Brown at the Oley Valley High School, the senior class president.
“We get credits towards our senior class trip, our prom ticket, once they’re all tallied up at the end of the year,” said Brown.
For nearly 60 years, the senior class has been involved with picking apples for cider and spending hours baking hundreds of baked goods.
“It just brings everybody together, and who doesn’t want to make baked goods and buy some baked goods?” said Brown.
The bake sale benefits the community and the Oley High School Class of 2027.
“The fact that I’m able to do it for my senior year and be able to contribute and give back to the community is just so fulfilling,” said Brown.
The fair will continue through Friday and Saturday this week.
