LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Charges were filed Thursday against a man who was shot and an alleged gunman who claimed self-defense in a Central Pennsylvania shooting earlier this month, court documents show.
Anthony Madonna, 47, faces felony charges of aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief, according to court records. He is accused of shooting Tyler Alston, 33, of Lancaster, in the area of W. Liberty and N. Prince streets Sept. 10.
Court records show Alston was also charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of simple assault after allegedly throwing what is believed to be a soup can at Madonna, hitting Madonna in the head before the shooting.

Police said in the criminal complaint that officers found Alston, who gave them a description of Madonna and said he hit Madonna in the face multiple times, in Lancaster before being taken to the hospital. He also told officers where the shooting happened in Manheim Township, and when officers arrived at the scene, they saw it was soaked in water and people were cleaning it.
Madonna was one of the people there and spoke with police. The complaint shows, he had a swollen eye and told police, “it was self-defense,” after claiming Alston threatened to kill him and hit him in the head.
Investigators learned Madonna and Alston were involved in a road rage incident days earlier when they spoke with Alston at the hospital. Investigators said Alston told him he recognized Madonna, who was standing near Alston’s home.
Madonna claimed to investigators that he was scared for his life after Alston hit him and threatened to kill him, so he allegedly fired two shots, according to the complaint.
Police said they found an unopened can of Campbell’s tomato soup, with the top part smashed in and a 9mm handgun when they searched the home. Video surveillance footage that recorded the shooting was also obtained by police.
Police noted in the complaint that they received medical records for both Alston and Madonna.
Court records show Madonna was released on unsecured bail set at $250,000 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Heisse, and he awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 17.

Alston has yet to be arraigned on his charges.
